Life With Cats and Art March 2021

Hello {{ subscriber.first_name or "friend" }},

My last newsletter was written in November. As I said at the time, I usually send them every other month but I've been procrastinating, hoping to share good news of things getting back to normal, galleries opening and art exhibitions to announce.

We still haven't returned to any kind of "normalcy" but I do feel hopeful now that the vaccines are happening on a wider scale. Too soon to tell what will happen as far as exhibitions, etc. but I am keeping busy with my Etsy shop www.etsy.com/shop/karenzukrosenblatt with close to 1000 sales. Holiday sales were great! I will be adding some spring colors in product designs.

I'm working on a Facebook Shop where you can order and check out products shown without going to another website. Unfortunately, there are some technical issues to work out. I'll be talking about it more when they iron out the kinks. You can get to it from my Facebook Page www.facebook.com/ArtByZuk if you want to take a peek.

I'm also working on small oil paintings which can be hung or displayed on a shelf. They look nice on a miniature easel as well. This is an oil painting of an Old English Sheepdog. It's on an 8" x 10" stretched canvas. It's available in my Etsy shop under "Original Paintings". Clicking the links on the pictures will get you there.

Casey and Red, my ginger boys, are a great inspiration and love to keep me company while I paint. I'm working on a portrait of Casey. This is the work in progress on an 8" x 10" stretched canvas. I will be posting it when completed. First is the photo reference of my beautiful boy. He is really as sweet as he looks.

This is almost finished. Next step is some contrast and adjustments in the color, then some more details in hair and whiskers. It is really difficult to get the right shades of "ginger". Not quite orange, not too yellow or red. I'm aiming for that copper - like shade, It's somewhere between Yellow Ochre and Burnt Sienna.

As you can see I made a to of adjustments. Its very hard to call a painting "finished'. i always see something I didn't notice before. Sometimes I just instinctively know when it is done but other times I have to force myself to stop fussing with it. Then, after it dries, I might do a glaze or two or three...

Now that most of my red hair has grown out and I finally had it cut I no longer have to hide in a hat or ponytail. Many of us gals have said goodbye to coloring our hair. Nice to be free of "roots".

I apologize if you received this twice. Many were not delivered when I sent it out mid February. I have now moved it to a different company and am learning the ropes with the new platform. Need more time to paint!
