Hello {{ subscriber.first_name or "friend" }},
This month brought good news and bad news for me. I have been procrastinating writing this because the bad completely overshadowed the good and it kills me to relive it.
The good news was the first Art Show at the Big Apple Bazaar in Delray Beach. It was hosted by the Delray Art League and was an ingenious idea for an exhibition in air conditioned comfort and individual exhibit spaces with room for wall display as well as showcases and
counter top space. This new venture is called Summer in the City and the exhibitions take place on the 3rd weekend of the month through September. The next show is Saturday, August 21 through Sunday, August 22. Beginning with October the shows will continue as Artscape in the City at the Big Apple. I had good sales and commissions at the first show and hope to see some of you August 21.
The bad and heartbreaking news is about my precious Casey. If you follow me on Facebook you saw this post on July 15, just two days before the art show:
I can't believe I am writing this. Had to have my precious Casey euthanized today. He had a sudden Saddle Thrombosis, FATE (Feline Aortic Thromboembolism). He was only 4 years old. He stopped eating and was crying in obvious pain. The Dr. discussed options which were mostly bleak and we decided best not to let him suffer with prolonged and futile treatments. He was such a delightful sweet cat. So
heartbreaking to say goodbye no matter their age.
I have since heard of other cats who have had this horrible event. A blood clot forms in the aorta and travels down the body. In his case it paralyzed his hind legs. It came on suddenly and I was already getting ready to take him to the vet. I had made the appointment because his appetite seemed off and I wanted the vet to check him. He suddenly cried out
and I saw him dragging his legs. We were at the vet in minutes. I hope none of you experience such a tragedy. If you have been reading my newsletters for a while you know that this is not the first time I have lost a young pet to a sudden event, including Hillman, who was 3 yrs old when he jumped down from the nightstand in the middle of the night and died of "sudden cardiac arrest".
It has been two weeks since we lost Casey and Red is still looking all over the house for him. He meows and looks at me. I feel so sad for him. I will find him a new buddy soon. Casey is the one on the right in this photo. I'm so glad I already did his portrait. I know I couldn't handle it now.
