Hello {{ subscriber.first_name or "friend" }},
The July 4th weekend is coming up and most festivities will be quieter and less crowded than in the past. I can remember the times when I joined the crowds in the streets early to get a parking space and a good spot on the beach to view the fireworks. Of course, anywhere
on the beach was a good spot but the older you are the less distance you want to walk and schlep your stuff. Then you had to leave en masse and get back to your car.
I could never understand why people brought their dogs. During the day they have to walk on the burning hot pavement while their humans browse the shops and festivals. When walking across the bridge i was always afraid a little dog would get their paws trapped in the gratings. Some owners would carry the little ones or use strollers but many were just oblivious. Why don't they
realize or care that all animals hate fireworks? They will often cower in fear or harm themselves trying to escape from the noise. Many years ago we helped rescue a neighbor's german shepherd who was so crazed she nearly executed herself by biting through the electric cord of the washing machine while trying to get behind it. Luckily, we were able to revive her with CPR and she survived. I will enjoy the fireworks in front of the TV staying nice and cool with snacks and
drinks.
The cats and our grooming saga hasn't changed too much. I brush my two Ginger boys, Red and Casey, every morning. They still just tolerate it. The treat bribe helps and they line up for the sessions. They know the routine. I take out the container of treats and the brush. I brush a little then give a treat and repeat. At best, they will stay put and allow me to finish but
they have their eyes on the treat container the whole time.
