As I write this I am also watching the French Open at Roland Garros. I am an avid tennis fan and play every day. Some exciting matches are going on. Whenever I watch I am reminded of my precious Casey who loved to watch with me. He would get right up in front of the TV and follow all the movement. I enjoyed
watching him as much as the play going on. I will always miss him.
Check out this image of him in action. With Father's Day around the corner it makes a great gift for a Dad who loves tennis and kitties. Click on the image to view the purchase options from wall art to puzzles.

Red and Bella are enjoying the spring weather and love to spend time on the screened in patio. Soon it will be too hot. Actually, it's already too hot and I wonder how they don't melt out
there in the afternoon Florida sun.
Bella found a little cubbyhole in our Armoire and that is her go to safe space when Red is in a frisky mood. He then adopted the spot above her for himself. We put a folded small blanket there for him to lie on. Soon Bella discovered it and decided she liked that spot too. Here he is after jumping
up to his cubby to find her there.
Anatomy of a Painting - CAT Scan
CAT Scan was a fun painting with lots of challenges. It drove me crazy for a while but as I kept refining the idea it took form and I just kept going. The search for good references was time consuming but worthwhile. The process from idea to completion took around three months.
This was my sketch in Procreate. After trying out different layouts I decided on three cat buddies; one is getting the scan while the other two are watching.
It took a long time choosing the perspective of the room and CT machine. This was the general design without regard to color other than the orange cats.
Still working in Procreate I tried out different elements and placement of the screen. I realized that it was getting too busy and I needed to simplify so I thought about what
was important and took out the rest. I removed the plant and shelves. The screen was bugging me. I couldn't figure out the best place for it.
This was early on after I began roughing in the elements on the actual canvas. I wasn't sure what I wanted in the screen other than a skeleton that looked something like an Xray.
Then I thought about the idea that the cat had swallowed a big fish and that's what was making him ill. I moved the screen onto the wall.
Now I began working all over the canvas and began thinking about
the colors. Of course, the cats were most important and I concentrated on their positions and where they were looking. The cat having the scan was modeled after Red because that is his favorite position so I had lots of references.
This is the finished painting after lots of work on details. I added texture to the walls and ceiling and more contrast all around. It is available on
prints and on products at www.karenzukrosenblatt.com. The original oil painting is also available. Shop the current sale on all originals in my Etsy shop.
